The next day, page one: #PRC considers limits on use of gas cards. COMMENT: Well that’s about time! And a present to the New Mexican, which
apparently desperately wanted to keep the story alive.
The headline Page 5: Block Jr.’s forms filled out inaccurately. They got him in what might be a hanging
offense.
Thursday, August 25, 2011, front page: Ex-cop: Block Jr., not Lujan, linked to FBI probe. This was about a veteran police officer
trying to stay on the force after a drunk-driving charge. He claimed that Block Jr. was the subject of
a federal cocaine-buying investigation. Only much later in the story was it revealed that the accusation came from a snitch, whose charges could not be proven. Much later in the story.
But there were charges and counter-charges from the police officer, who claimed he was fired as a result of a political vendetta, and the City Manager Robert Romero, who fired him.
Romero, if you remember, was the not-so-innocent bystander as his ex-wife and new squeeze got into a battle after a cage fighting match at a local casino.
