We continue to be amazed at how stupid and
corrupt local politicians in Santa Fe are.
A
case in point: Jerome Block, Jr., the until-now protected heir of Block Sr., a
powerful local politician. The front
pages of the New Mexican were occupied for much of the month of August 2011,
with his rather silly and highly unfortunate (possibly criminal) activities. August 13, 2011, Sunday: Block docs show iffy buys. Lead: “In addition to using state gasoline
accounts for frequent fill-ups, records show state Public Regulation
Commissioner Jerome Block Jr. charged chimichangas, cigarettes and Gatorade
during a Sunday night stop at a Santa Fe convenience store.”
COMMENT: Chimichangas!! Oh, the horrible crook!
The story noted that his
state-issued gas card was cancelled, after which the PRC commissioner asked one
employee for his Social Security number and another for his gas card.
The investigation
revealed that Block Jr. during 134 days in May and June put more gas into his
2004 Dodge Durango, which can only take 27 gallons per fill-up, than could fit
into his gas-guzzler. During one day in
May, he got 95 gallons! But his #guzzling didn’t stop
there. On July 9, at 2:28 PM, Block Jr.
charged on his borrowed gas credit card 17.25 gallons. One minute later, he charged 17.30
gallons. Too bad I wasn’t behind him,
because I might have gotten some free gas at the same time.
The worst transgressions involved
Block Jr.’s other purchases: two chimichangas for $4.98, a box of Marlboros
Gold Pack for $5.24 and Gatorade for $1.59.
I suppose, if you’re really hungry, the only thing to do is stop by the
gas station and get some bad food and cancer sticks. COMMENT:
TWO GAS STATION CHIMICHANGAS! BLOCK MUST
HAVE BEEN VERY HUNGRY!!
`As
an elected official, Block Jr. earns $90,000 a year, plus that gas credit card. He was asked to resign. MORE ABOUT THAT IN FUTURE BLOGS.
